Hospital Expands Dermatology Coverage to Five Days a Week for Bay Area Pets
San Francisco, Calif., July 7, 2008 — San Francisco Veterinary Specialists, Inc. (SFVS), San Francisco’s only dedicated multi-specialty veterinary hospital, has announced that Helen Power, DVM, DACVD, will be joining the hospital’s dermatology and allergy department. She will be accepting appointments on Tuesdays, starting July 15, 2008. With Dr. Power joining the staff, SFVS will now offer dermatology services five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, for Bay Area pets.
“Helen is well-known and respected in the veterinary field, and she will be a wonderful addition to the SFVS team,” says Carlo Vitale, DVM, DACVD, head of the dermatology department at SFVS. “She has many years of experience in the world of veterinary dermatology, having founded and owned her own specialty practice for 15 years. We are excited that our clients and their pets will now have access to her expertise in treating pets with dermatological issues.”
Dr. Power received her DVM from the University of California at Davis. After graduation, she initially pursued her professional interest in equine medicine, completing an internship and residency in large animal medicine at Cornell University. After time in both equine and small animal practice, she returned to UC Davis and completed her residency in dermatology, and obtained Board certification from the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD) in 1991.
Most recently, Dr. Power was a member of Pfizer Animal Health’s Vet Specialty Team, working with other specialists to promote dermatology in the general practice setting. Prior to joining Pfizer, she founded Campbell, Calif.-based Dermatology for Animals in 1992, where she was the practice owner until 2006. Dr. Power lectures widely on veterinary dermatology and has served as a visiting faculty member at veterinary schools in the United States and abroad. She continues to publish scientific articles and participate in research projects and clinical trials. Her primary practice interest is feline dermatology, with a side interest in equine dermatology.
