Position Title: ES Veterinary Nurse
Department: Emergency Services
Reports To: Emergency Services Supervisor
SFVS ES nurses must be adept at triage. SFVS Veterinary Nurses must have a broad knowledge of anatomy, physiology, animal science, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology and sufficient mathematical skills to ensure the administration of accurate drug and fluid doses. They must understand the commonly seen disease processes. They must be able to successfully restrain animals, complete clinical laboratory tests, and use multiple radiology techniques. They must have the ability to induce, monitor and recover anesthesia, have knowledge in the planes of anesthesia, have knowledge of abnormals in anesthesia and how to problem solve with the doctors assistance. They must be able to assist in surgery, and perform specialized treatments and procedures. SFVS nurses must be able to think through the cases, the diseases and the needs of the patient; they must think of nursing care beyond the basics written on the treatment sheet. SFVS nurses must provide thorough and compassionate care to all patients. They are able to greatly utilize and expand their technical skills and knowledge.
San Francisco Veterinary Specialists has immediate openings for experienced veterinary technicians. We are currently seeking both full time and part time employees. Hours do include nights and weekends. Swing and overnight workers receive a generous shift differential.
