The July 19, 2008 San Francisco Chronicle featured a Q&A with SFVS veterinarian and animal behaviorist Sophia Yin. The question: My 4-year-old Lab has car anxiety. He’ll jump in, excited to go for a ride, but after a minute or so, he starts trembling and panting and puts his head down. I thought maybe it was car sickness; but he’s never vomited, even on a three-hour trip, yet he won’t stop panting the whole time. I’ve tried doggy herbal calm-downs pills, but they don’t work. Any suggestions?

Also on this page is a wonderful article by Eileen Mitchell about “tripod” dogs — those dogs who have had a limb amputated, often as a way to control cancer.
