Whiskey is our great little vizsla puppy who bounded into our lives at 8-weeks old….walking around our apartment like he owned the place. He hasn’t ever met a person he didn’t like, a stick that didn’t need carrying or another dog that didn’t look like he’d make a great pal. After living with us for a few weeks, Whiskey had a couple of days of decreased playfulness, a drippy nose and being slightly sleepy. We began to feed him by hand all of his special treats in an attempt to keep him eating but Whiskey was just too sick. He was definitely not acting like the lively vizsla puppy who ran around our house chasing balls or waking from a nap to suddenly decide to lick the entire surface of our faces. We were very worried about him. We took him to SFVS where he was treated and hospitalized for two days for a significant pneumonia. While at SFVS he received IV fluids, IV antibiotics, chest percussion and lots of TLC…in fact, after only 8 short hours of care at SFVS Whiskey was wagging his tail again. The second day while we were visiting, he tried to attack Bethany’s shoes….a very normal activity for Whiskey. The follow day we were discharged with instructions to give three weeks of antibiotics and to come back to SFVS. Over the course of the next couple of days, Whiskey returned to being our dog….and after the three weeks of antibiotics Whiskey was given a clean bill of health! We are very thankful for the great care and TLC given to our little buddy, Whiskey, by all the vets and staff at SFVS. They’re tops in our book. They’re tops in Whiskey’s book too…even after spending two days being hospitalized there (in the cat ward, so as not to infect the other dogs), at his follow-up visit he bounded into the lobby and proceeded to pull at his lead and wag his tail off while trying desperately to reunite with all the friends he made at SFVS.
