Congratulations to Alex Perez, SFVS’s April Staff Member of the Month! Following is a brief Q+A with Alex:
What’s your job at SFVS? How long have you been working at the hospital?
I am a Customer Service Representative (CSR) at the front desk of SFVS and started on July 30, 2008.
What’s the most rewarding part of your workday? The most challenging?
The best part of my job is interacting with so many dogs and cats. I love meeting all the different pets that come to SFVS with their cool names and personalities. The hardest part is coping with the emotions that surface when we lose a patient. In those cases, I always think positively by reminding myself that without SFVS, the patient never had a fighting chance.
What’s the most unusual pet you’ve come across during your time at the hospital?
I saw a miniature Australian Shepard and a miniature Bull Terrier. Never knew they existed!
If you could pass along one bit of “pet parent advice” to everyone, what would it be?
Please, please protect your pets. They are like babies (maybe worse) and get into everything! Keep potential hazards far away from reach and keep them “ON-LEASH.”
Any furry friends of your own?
My girlfriend has a cat named Cloe that took a liking to me from day one. I love Cloe like my own … so much that I refer to her as “my” cat. Well, she IS!
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at SFVS?
In my free time, I love to skim board on the shore in Pacifica, hit the gym, sing till I’m hoarse, watch the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), and hang out with the love of my life and her family.
