Meet Chai, a very happy 8-year-old Tibetan Spaniel, loved and cared for by Sue T.
In early January, Chai was suddenly unable to make his usually effortless jump up to his guardian’s bed, and quickly deteriorated to the point that he was unable to walk … or even wag his tail.
Before pursuing a surgical solution to Chai’s cervical problem, Sue elected to try a holistic approach to healing. Through a recommendation, Chai came to see VCA San Francisco Veterinary Specialists’ own David Fong, DVM, a holistic veterinarian. Dr. Fong immediately added herbs, acupuncture and herbal detoxification remedies to the Western medicines Chai was already taking to manage his pain.
Additionally, Sue outfitted Chai with a veterinary wheelchair, which allowed him to practice utilizing the muscles in his legs again by providing support to get him into a standing position.
Result? Two and half weeks later, Chai was walking again.
We’re happy to share in celebrating Chai’s ability to walk, and are thrilled that Sue gets to see her boy’s tail wag in happiness once again. Go Chai!
