Our own David B.Y. Fong, DVM, recently answered an SF Chronicle reader’s question about mercury levels in cat food, in the paper’s Ask the Vet series.
The question: My cat loves canned cat food, which has a large variety of types of fish. Since fish contain mercury, which is not good for humans, wouldn’t it be even worse for a small cat? How much is safe?
For Dr. Fong’s answer: Limit the fish in your cat’s diet (SF Gate)
